“Beautiful Madness”

Come enjoy Southern hospitality amid the vibrant color of azaleas and spring flowers during the 64th Annual Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Garden Tour© in the beautiful coastal community of Wilmington, North Carolina.   An official event of the North Carolina Azalea Festival, the tour is one of the longest running and most popular garden tours in the South.

The tour will open Friday April 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM with the spectacular Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the gracious home of Carole and Richard Johnson on Masonboro Sound Road. The parade of the 2017 Azalea Belles© accompanied by the Citadel Summerall Guards is the highlight of this ceremony along with the introduction of the North Carolina Azalea Festival Queen & North Carolina Azalea Festival celebrities and entourage.   After the ceremony enjoy the reception where members of the Cape Fear Garden Club will serve punch and homemade cookies on the sweeping lawn with beautiful views of the waterway.  NOTE: On Friday morning, there will be free roundtrip bus service beginning at 8:30am at Southside Baptist Church, 3320 South College Road. Buses run until noon. No parking is available at the ribbon cutting site until after the ceremony.

Throughout the weekend you will see Plein air artists in many of the gardens, and new this year local groups will perform live music and Garden Seminars will be presented each day in various gardens. Speakers are Aimee Coker of Encore Azalea ® / Southern Living Plant Collection ®, George Hartner of Outdoor Illumination, Tracy McCullen of Signature Gardens & Pools and Drew Thorndyke owner of  Cape Fear Water Gardens.  Click here to download or print the Speaker Schedule. And don’t miss the Wet Paint Sale on Sunday, April 9th, from 2pm- 6 pm, at the McCarley/Langevin garden (#9), 510 Surry Street. See all the art painted in the gardens over the weekend, see who won the cash prize, and go home with a memento you’ll cherish forever!

Tickets are $25.00 (plus $1.25 postage), they are good for all three days and may be purchased at any of the locations listed below. They will also be available at each garden during the tour. Gardens are open 10:00 am until 6:00 pm daily and children under 12 are admitted free with a paid adult. Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Belles© will welcome visitors to each garden throughout the three-day tour.

Profits from the Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Garden Tour© are reinvested in the community as beautification and horticultural grants within New Hanover County, scholarships at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College, and conservation efforts at Battery Island, a National Audubon Society bird sanctuary. The club is rapidly approaching $1.2 million in donations to the community in the past 60 years.  For more information about the club, please visit us on Facebook or on our home page
