and Blooms:
Cape Fear Garden Club and the North Carolina Azalea Festival
is a 112-page coffee table-style book by Susan Taylor Block.
It is filled with interesting facts, charming tales and many
remarkable black-and-white and color photographs.
The book tells the story of
the Cape Fear Garden Club, in existence since 1925, and the state’s
oldest. With over 300
members it is also the second largest in the nation. It
also chronicles the history of the Azalea Festival which began in
1948 and became the North Carolina Azalea Festival in 1959.
You can read about and see the many festivals and Queen
Azaleas. Lots of pages
and stunning pictures cover the history of the Azalea Garden Tour
from it’s beginning in 1953, to the first Belles in 1969, to its
Fiftieth Anniversary in 2003.
A listing of all gardens featured on all 50 tours is included.
