Endowment History

For almost 90 years the Cape Fear Garden Club has worked to enhance and support the natural beauty of Wilmington. In 2011, we created the Cape Fear Garden Club Beautification Endowment to create perpetual funding to promote wide scale enhancement and maintenance of the landscapes of our city gateways, medians, byways and public spaces.

The Beautification Endowment mission is to provide perpetual and permanent funding enabling the Cape Fear Garden Club to make a significant impact on the beautification and maintenance of public areas in the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County. Each year we have an opportunity to use the available funds from the Endowment to make grants to public projects in our county and city that will enhance the lives of our fellow citizens and increase the beauty we all enjoy in our hometown.

In 2012 we began the Beautification Endowment with individual contributions of $5,000 and a matching contribution from the Garden Club of $5,000. With the success of the first Moonlight in the Garden Gala in 2013, the CFGC increased its Endowment to $32,674 by the end of 2013.

The 2014-2015 year will see some changes in the Beautification Endowment. President, Marjorie Way, has created a new Special Committee to be called the Beautification Endowment Development Committee. This year the committee will create clearly defined fund raising goals and review fund raising options. The Moonlight in the Garden Gala will be our primary event, occurring every other year. This year, the committee will be looking at other ideas to increase the value of the club’s Endowment.

The Long Range Planning Committee will advise on the best grant application and award process for the Endowment. The Endowment grant can be awarded at any time of the year and does not have to be awarded every year. As stated in the creation of the endowment, the only stipulation for awarding a grant is that it be for the beautification and maintenance of public areas and restricted to the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County.  All CFGC committees with a project in coordination with either the city or county are welcome to apply for a grant. The City of Wilmington or New Hanover County can also apply directly. The Cape Fear Garden Club Beautification Endowment is a resource for the garden club to support beauty here at home.

How can you support the Cape Fear Garden Club Beautification Endowment Fund?

Gifts to the Fund may be made in many forms, and gifts of all sizes are most welcome!
The CFGC Beautification Endowment Fund is invested and administered through the North Carolina Community Foundation.
You can assure the continuation of our mission in many ways: your gift or pledge to the fund, your gifts in memory or in honor of friends and family, or your thoughtfully planned bequest –these are just a few of the ways you can help build a strong endowment for the future.
All gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Cash Gift – The simplest and most convenient way to participate in the fund is through cash gifts, which may take the form of pledges over a period of years. All such gifts qualify for maximum income tax deductions.
Many individuals and families may choose to make their gifts in honor or memory of a beloved family member or friend who enjoyed and supported the beautiful public areas of our community.
